Artist Spotlight: Glenn Gerber
“Turning” Scrap Wood Into Treasures
Local Ohio farmer and artisan Glenn Gerber takes his woodturning skills to another level with the beautiful works of art he creates. He might see a fallen tree by the side of the road, or chunks of “scrap” wood at local area sawmills, and instead of seeing something disposable and useless, he sees opportunity and potential. After the initial process of examining the wood to see if or what it might be able to become, Glenn takes it home and promptly gives it another chance at life…
After meeting Glenn at the 2019 Early American Artisan Fair here in Millersburg, he mentioned he had built up quite an inventory over the years, and whether we might be interested in taking a look at a few of his recent pieces.. Needless to say, we were blown away by the pieces Glenn brought in. Today, we are honored and delighted to be able to offer Glenn’s work here at New Towne Gallery, and to feature him as May’s Artist Spotlight! We hope you will enjoy Glenn’s work as much as we do.

…What’s next for me? I could be a vessel that keeps things together. I could be placed on a table or shelf as an accent piece. I just love having warm hands hold me and feel my form, or having hands take candy from me… Whatever happens is ok, because I am no longer an outcast. I am a unique, one of a kind creation, and I have a purpose.
