Rien Poortvliet (A truly inspiring artist) has quoted..."To show what the Good Lord has Made."
This has been a path for Susie Gordon, one that centers on her Christian faith, her family and the animals she uses in her art.
Oil is her medium of choice but Susie also embarks on works in Watercolor, Graphite/Charcoal, and Egg Tempera. Many hours are spent researching the masters- Rembrandt and related works.
With her pencil drawings she sometimes adds a tint of color to the finished drawing which is a subtle way of portraying how things really appear to the viewer in real life. Soft and detailed all in one.
In her work, the piece is turned again and again and upside down as Susie works on it to see every section as an abstract shape not just, for instance, a "horse's ear". Every painting is a completed drawing before the color is applied and the painted edge is softened.
Susie has many past artists that continue to inspire her- Sargent, Zorn, Mauve, Sir Edwin Landseer, Rosa Bonhuer, Adolph Schreyer, and today- Rien Poortlviet, Raymond Harris-Ching and countless others.
"Being inspired by these masters is just as exciting as doing my own work." -Susie
Susie enjoys spending time with her children, her horses, and a menagerie of assorted animals down a back-lane country farm in Ohio, where nature and God's splendor are her daily inspiration.
